Spotify’s Daylist: What if you let AI control the aux?
Do you ever want to listen to music but have no idea which song or artist or playlist to put on? I have been there one too many times. Sometimes choosing what to listen to feels like a burden and I end up putting on the same playlist and feel bored within the first 2 songs.
Spotify’s Daylist feature solves that problem by using AI to analyse your listening habits and updates 5 times a day to provide 5 different playlists based on your activity, mood, time of day etc.

Daylist leverages AI and machine learning to create dynamic, personalised playlists that adapt to users’ moods, listening habits and daily routines. It also updates throughout the day, offering tailored music selections to match the user’s unique daily routines and activities.
In September 2024, Spotify’s AI-powered “Daylist” feature globally expanded into 14 languages. Initially introduced in September 2023, the tool was limited to selected English-speaking markets. By expanding into 14 languages, Spotify breaks cultural language barriers and enhances accessibility to Daylist, one of the platform’s most popular features for music discovery among English-speaking users.
According to Ashley King for Digital Music News, Spotify’s product team collaborated with local and music experts to capture the essence of Daylist in each language, ensuring listeners worldwide can resonate with the feature. As a French-speaking user, enjoying the Daylist in my native language made the experience feel more relevant and personal, as the French version felt authentic rather than a mere translation. This exemplifies how combining AI technologies with intercultural awareness can create unique, personalised customer experiences.
Moreover, as analysed by Vivek Chaudhri in Forbes, the business landscape is shifting towards customer-centric business strategies. Companies can no longer solely rely on their product or service to compete. They must invest and focus on improving their customer experience to exceed expectations. Spotify’s Daylist global expansion illustrates how companies continuously improve and personalise their customer experience, a critical factor in Spotify’s differentiation from competitors. As noted by Rowan Davies in Tech Radar, music fans tend to prefer Spotify over other streaming services due to its hyper-personalised features.
I find Spotify’s expansion inspiring as it demonstrates the importance of customer-centricity and breaking through cultural differences in marketing. It also highlights the potential for technological innovations within the music industry, which as a music and technology enthusiast, I find fascinating.
